The Rooster

The song of a soul is a funny thing.
The rooster up the road crows
fifty times a day,
it sounds exactly the same every time.
He is as happy to tell us
that the sun is up at 3 am
when it is still dark,
or at noon when it is raining.
He never seems embarrassed
about it, like, “Maybe I already told them”
or “Maybe I’m too loud” He never
starts and stops mid-crow
as if he lost his mojo.
He was born with that song in his heart
and he gives it his all every time.
