a poem inspired by a footnote about dreaming fruitflies mentioned in the book, "The Hidden Life of Trees", by Peter Wohlleben
How simple and sweet
the dreams of the fruit fly
beguiled awake by
a corpsey blackened banana.
And lured thus
joins its fellows
in a dance of the sugarplum fairies
(rotten banana fairies as it were)
having no itinerary,
no agenda,
no fact checking mission,
just flitting over fertile fruit,
drunk in feast and fragrance,
a merry orbiting
above a trashcan
in a corner of neglect.
