Nelson Mandela - From Prison to President

Nelson Mandela died last week, and the world is mourning his loss. In the 1960s, he worked to help end the policy of apartheid (the legal segregation of the races) in South Africa, and was ultimately imprisoned for his activities. After serving a twenty-seven year sentence, he was released. Before long it became known that he had matured into a man of reconciliation and love, with a heart to serve his nation and humanity. He served as President of South Africa from 1994 until 1999, and after that he worked for international humanitarian causes. His benevolent and forgiving character has become an example for us in the 21st Century. The quote above certainly reflects an attitude of wisdom and depth held by few people. We wish him blessings and safe passage on his transition to the next world.
