Native Plants

Permaculture advocate, teacher, and author of "Gaia's Garden", Toby Hemenway, speaks about Native Plants

Oct 29, 2018

I was blown away when I read Toby Hemenway's seminal book, Gaia's Garden. It is a textbook on permaculture gardening techniques, that in some sections reads like poetry. As I read about soil composition, nourishment, plant species, and arguments against tilling and for sheet mulching, I became truly excited. His approach to creating wild gardens, growing food and giving the wild places back are as inspirational as many spiritual books I've read without any reference to the divine other than to the wonderful being, Mother Earth.

I was truly sorry to find out that Toby Hemenway died in December, 2016 of pancreatic cancer. We lost a real hero to the earth on this plane, but I can't doubt that he has been welcomed to the other side by those who cheer him on for his advocacy for sane growing techniques.

Youtube features many of his talks, but I wanted to share this short one here just to give people a taste of his viewpoint.
