Casco Bay High School: An Expeditionary School
Education is a huge topic so I thought I’d begin with something close to home, where our youngest child, Tadin, attends school: Casco Bay High School, in Portland Maine.

Casco Bay High School calls itself an expeditionary school. Edutopia, the educational foundation of George Lucas, highlights Casco Bay High School on its website as part of their Schools that Work project. You can read more at:
Watch the video about Susan McCray, the Humanities English teacher, who designed the project, “Gimme Shelter”. Our son, who is enrolled as a junior, participated on this project. He learned a great deal about himself, his classmates, and the situation of homeless people. The students worked together to produce a short documentary film which was presented at the local Salt Gallery, a school for documentary film in downtown Portland.
Casco Bay High School is in its fifth year of existence, with its second senior class graduating this spring. Their website states:

The junior class just returned from another expedition called The Junior Journey, where they participated in a week-long service project with Habitat for Humanity in West Virginia. The photo is of our son, Tadin, looking incredibly rugged and handsome, holding a chunk of hardened foundation glue.

We feel that Casco Bay High School, in conjunction with PATHS, (Portland Arts and Technology High School), which shares the same building, where our son is taking a two year course in film and New Media, is giving him a first rate education and preparing him for college, career and citizenship.
