am grateful for all the books and poetry that have fed me all of my life. Characters in books have been as precious to me as real people. The beauty and life lessons I have benefited from are too numerous to mention. This website contains writing I've done over many years. In all of it, I've been tremendously inspired by the writing of others.
Reading The Diary of Anne Frank when I was eleven woke something in me. So did Harriet the Spy, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, The Yearling, Jane Eyre, Middlemarch, The Bluest Eye, Tell Me a Riddle, Anna Karenina, Tess of the D’urbervilles, My Antonia, Etty Hillesum: A Life Interrupted, and Man’s Search for Meaning. The poetry of Donald Hall, Wendell Berry, Siegfried Sassoon, Emily Dickinson, Edna St. Vincent Millay, Mary Oliver, Ellen Bass, Alison Luterman, and dozens of others. It feels so unfair to name a few because there are hundreds more. Thousands.
The immense gifts given by writers are an untold wealth. Humanity is deepened and strengthened by those who have taken the time to leave us those gifts. Books take some hours to read. But we can draw from them for decades afterwards. There aren’t too many things that I know of that give back so much for such small investment.
Thank you for visiting my website. We are a huge, living, breathing being, this earth and universe, and all the life that has been here before us and life to come; human, tree, animal or otherwise. Aren't we lucky?
